Paper Inspection for Dirt and Holes (LSI-A4-DIRT & HOLES)

The Large Sheet In-speck-tor-A4 (LSI-A4) measures both dirt specks and visible holes in pulp and paper according to ISO/CEN 5350-4, TAPPI T563, and PAPTAC D35 standards. Operating on flat and smooth sheets with an ISO Brightness >30%, the LSI scans for dirt specks and holes in a single pass. The system provides essential information to ensure high product quality.

Specifications:

The Large Sheet In-speck-tor-A4 (LSI-A4) measures dirt specks and visible holes in pulp and paper according to ISO/CEN 5350-4, TAPPI T563, and PAPTAC D35 standards. The system measures the number, size, and equivalent black area (EBA) of visible dirt specks and holes much more precisely than the human eye. Operating on flat and smooth sheets with an ISO Brightness >30%, the LSI scans for dirt specks and holes in a single pass. This instrument provides the necessary information to ensure high product quality.

Advantages:

  • No need for precise sample placement: Fast pre-scan with “click and drag” for setting sheet boundaries.
  • Save “sheet boundaries” templates: Allows for consistent re-analysis without recalibration.
  • Full-resolution image viewing: View the scanned image at full resolution and zoom in on individual specks and holes.
  • ISO Level 2 traceable EBA calibration standards: OpTest provides a set of calibration standards that meet the requirements of the standard methods.

Certified Sheet Scanner:

  • Industrial precision: The scanner is a high-precision industrial device with serviceable parts, neutral white backing, and precise mechanics compared to consumer-type scanners.
  • Fast scan: Certified and calibrated at OpTest, it scans an A4 or letter-sized sheet in 30 seconds or less at an optical resolution of 16 µm/pixel (1600 dots per inch).

Results and Reports:

The LSI-A4 provides detailed reporting in the Operation Viewer, including:

  • Dirt specks: Physical and EBA/Tappi speck count per m² and PPM (mm²/m²) with %-counting uncertainty.
  • Holes: Physical and EBA hole count per m² and PPM (mm²/m²) with %-counting uncertainty.
  • Size distribution histograms: With adjustable upper and lower limits.
  • Images of sheets and individual specks and holes: All data can be viewed and manipulated in Microsoft Excel™. An Excel template and auto-load macro are provided with the LSI-A4 software.

System Requirements:

  • Computer: Two available USB 2.0 ports, minimum 8GB RAM.
  • Operating System: Latest versions of Windows™.
  • Software: Microsoft Office™ (2010 or higher).

Dimensions:

  • LSI-A4 Scanner: 60 cm L x 35 cm W x 14 cm H (23” L x 14” W x 5” H).
  • Computer (optional): 80 cm L x 70 cm W x 45 cm H (32″ L x 28″ W x 18″ H).

Connections:

  • Power supply: 120V/60HZ or 240V/50Hz, 1 phase, 750 W minimum. Power must be stable within 3%, and transients below ± 10%.
